Person Rolf Verleger

Rolf Verleger, Prof. Dr., 1951-2021, war Psychologe am Universitätsklinikum in Lübeck. Veröffentlichte zahlreiche Artikel in wissenschaftlichen Fachzeitschriften. Von 2006 bis 2009 Mitglied im Direktorium des Zentralrats der Juden in Deutschland.

Prof. Dr. Rolf Verleger, Psychologe und Sohn zweier Überlebender der Vernichtung des europäischen Judentums, war von 2005 bis 2009 Mitglied im Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland und setzt sich seitdem für Gerechtigkeit für Palästina ein.

Prof. Dr. Rolf Verleger learned to read Hebrew letters in the prayerbook as a six-year old with his parents in Ravensburg. He furthered his dedication to the deciphering of apparently incomprehensible signals in his career as a psychologist and researcher of EEG (Electroencephalography) at the University of Lübeck (1988 – 2017). He heard of the Stockelsdorf cemetery through his commitment to rebuilding the Jewish community of Schleswig-Holstein. In the summer of 1999 he took two days off work, deciphered the gravestones to the best of his ability and shared his findings with a small group of people. He wrote the original German version of this book in the spring of 2019. Rolf Verleger died on November 8th 2021 after a short illness. In April 2022, he was posthumously awarded the City of Lübeck’s Erich Mühsam Prize.
