New Architecture in Berlin

Berlin is often referred to and regarded as an open 'laboratory' for new architecture. The development started with the fall of the Berlin Wall under the guiding principle of a stone Berlin, combined with a critical reconstruction of the lost cityscape. Since then compact blocks form the new centre around Friedrich Street and Potsdamer Square. But since the turn of the millennium these guidelines have been interpreted and implemented ever more creatively. An example of this is the group construction projects typical of Berlin, which provide a new form of private residential building.
