On February 26th, 2021, an artist using the pseudonym Rulton Fyder posted his first NFT on Instagram. The post read:
Four more NFTs followed the very same day. I was awestruck. I couldn’t let go of my iPhone and had to refresh Instagram a thousand times over the coming days to check if there was more. There was more and my conviction grew. Fyder was onto something. His works hinted of an artist with deep roots in art history and perhaps first-hand experience in the art market, but who most certainly possessed a curious mind that could sense the world, particularly the art and financial ones, were at a tipping point. Some- thing big was happening. Anyone with assets in Crypto or knowledge in the technology that fuels it, the Blockchain, could tell you that. Rulton Fyder’s art, with his utilization of this new technology and his incorporation of one of the most ancient of art forms, appropriation, to me captured the current spirit of our fast-paced digital age like no other. His NFT’s accurately portray the seismic power shifts happening concurrently around the globe. The GameStop revolt against Wall Street just one prime example.

When on February 28, 2021, Rulton Fyder published ”Tips for Artists Who Want To Sell NFT“, I sent an email sharing my praise for his work and told him we would like to exhibit his art at PULPO GALLERY and stage a physical show in dialogue with his offline peers.
He replied the next day, was fond of the idea and shared more insights on his art making practice:
”The potential of NFT truly fascinates me and the creation urge has compelled me to create works to attract traditionally-minded contemporary art collector‘s interest to draw them to this field that will potentially change the game for all parties in the art world.“
Two days after my initial outreach, we had agreed on what would become CAPTURING THE CURRENT ZEITGEIST: RULTON FYDER IN DIALOGUE WITH CONCEPTUAL ART CONTEMPORARIES.
I want to thank Rulton for all his efforts in making this analogue exhibition of his digital art a reality and for all the insightful dialogue we have had over the past few weeks. A big thank you to my wife Katherina for sharing in my enthusiasm and love for Rulton’s work and to Helga Krutzler for making this book come true. Enjoy.
