The Climate-Conflict Nexus in South and Southeast Asia
An Analysis of Climate Risk Financing Instruments
von Tim BaumannClimate change impacts will increase the risk of violent conflict breaking out by undermining the living conditions of the people affected by it. For this reason, activities that support vulnerable people’s capacity to adapt to climate change are needed. One new approach to tackling this issue is climate risk financing, which includes three layers, namely risk prevention, risk financing and risk management. The objective of this work is to answer the research question: Under which conditions can current climate risk financing instruments contribute to mitigating the potential for climate-related violent conflict in South and Southeast Asia?
