Ramon Llull (Raimundus Lullus, Mallorca 1232-1316) left us the most extensive medieval corpus of literary dialogue to be found anywhere in the Romance world. This corpus derives from the Latin, Romance, and Arab context of theological and philosophical discussion. The study undertakes a close examination of 6 of Llull's 26 dialogues with a view to defining the ideological stance and the literary procedures they act as a vehicle for. Llull develops a number of medieval dialogue traditions into a model of his own that formed the basis for the Ibero-Romance line of 'Llullist' dialogues. The volume contains the first edition of the 'Consolatio Venetorum'.
