„Wildfire Investigation“ ist die neueste Publikation (in
Englisch) des in Freiburg angesiedelten „Global Fire
Monitoring Center“ (GFMC) und folgt den im Verlag im Jahr
2013 veröffentlichten Monographien über das Kontrollierte
Brennen in Russland und dem benachbarten eurasischen Raum
(Prescribed Burning in Russia and Neighbouring
Temperate-Boreal Eurasia) und dem Weißbuch „Vegetation
Fires and Global Change. Challenges for Concerted
International Action”, das an die Vereinten Nationen
addressiert ist.
„Wildfire Investigation“ ist eine Einführung in die Forensik der Ursachen von Wald- und anderen Vegetationsbränden, die auf den Erfahrungen der Autoren Cornelis de Ronde (Südafrika) und Johann Georg Goldammer (GFMC) basieren. Die Erfahrungen aus dem südlichen Afrika lassen sich weltweit anwenden. Theoretische Grundlagen und Illustrationen aus der realen Welt stellen das Handwerkzeug für die Rekonstruktion oftmals ungeklärter Ursachen und Wirkungen von Wildfeuern dar.
Wildfire Investigation – Guidelines for Practitioners – is a publication of the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) aiming at sharing experiences of wildfire investigation in South Africa over two decades with other regions and countries of the world. The guidelines are a contribution in support of the endeavor of the United Nations (UN) and its affiliated processes and networks, notably the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the Global Wildland Fire Network, to reduce the impacts of wildfires at global level for the benefit of the global environment and humanity. Wildfire investigation is an essential component of fire management since it contributes to clarify the origins and causes of wildfires, but more importantly, to unveil possible deficits in fire management, gaps that should be closed by appropriate capacity building. This volume is a contribution to the International Wildfire Preparedness Mechanism (IWPM).
